Meet Ciera Nicole Butts
The newly crowned Miss District of Columbia USA® 2014 is 23-year old, Ciera Nicole Butts, a 2012 graduate of Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Communications. While at Marymount, Ciera was actively involved in a number of organizations, including The L.I.S.T. (Ladies Inspiring Strength for Tomorrow), which Ciera established and served as President and Vice President, in addition, she served as the Head Public Relations Officer for the Marymount University Fashion Department. Her knowledge, talent, and her passion for fashion, has led her to positions with ROCHE in New York City as the Production Coordinator of New York Fashion Shows. In addition, she had the opportunity to intern with IMG - Fashion Events as the Public Relations and Marketing Intern. There she was given the opportunity to assist on all tasks of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Public Relations and Marketing office and managed the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Press and Industry list. Closer to home, Ciera has worked as an Event Coordinator for Roberts' Fashion Events and currently is employed by BCBG Max Azria.
Ciera is no stranger to the Miss District of Columbia USA stage as last year, she placed second runner up in a competitive field and came back this year to win the title, thanks to hard work, determination, and, persistence staying true her personal motto of, "Have no regrets. See everything as a learning experience."
In an effort to serve the community, Ciera was involved in a community-based modeling organization called Elite Icons. As President of Elite Icons, Ciera and her team coordinated annual fashion shows, which served as esteem building activities and productive work areas, which kept teens away from inner city violence, and helped motivate teens to continue their ambitions. Her charitable work doesn't stop there as she has had hands on experience working for various organizations within the D.C. Metropolitan area including Becky's Fund, The Prom Dress Project, Susan G. Komen and the National MS Society and she looks forward to giving back even more of her time and heart to organizations that make a difference within the District. As Miss District of Columbia USA 2014, Ciera plans on dedicating her time to programs that emphasize youth empowerment, confidence building, and scholastic achievement of young adults. She believes that confidence is a key essential for success.
This Disney movie watching, self-proclaimed Starbucks feigned, loves to play video games, listening to music, and, has a huge phobia of fish, although she does love crab cakes.
Ciera states, "I am honored and humbled to serve as the District's Miss District of Columbia USA 2014, a dream come true. I hope to inspire others on this incredible journey and leave a legacy that we all can be proud of for generations to come."
Ciera will represent the District of Columbia in the Miss USA® pageant, in the Spring of 2014.
